2022 Episode10: Spring Game Preview
Wednesday Apr 06, 2022
Wednesday Apr 06, 2022
Full disclosure, Dr. Rob will not be at the Spring Game on Saturday. He will be watching closely on TV where he can rewind and watch plays over and over again.
Dr. Rob says to keep an eye on the offensive line and special teams. Dr. Rob knows the new offensive scheme will get all the oohs and aha, but a Spring game is not the place to gauge how much progress has been made. That will come with real competition in the fall.

2022 Episode 8: 1st Week of Spring Practice and Fan Survey Results
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
The results are in! Over 21,000 fans responded to the fan experience survey for Memorial Stadium. Everything from seat comfort, to alcohol sales, and gambling. On this edition of the Doc Talk podcast, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice go through the survey results page by page and give their opinion on the results.
The first week of Spring practice is in the books. All eyes are on Casey Thompson and the quarterbacks. However, it's what Scott Frost said about the offensive line that has Dr. Rob paying attention. Also, the one thing that coach Frost said that gives hope that he's no longer treading water as a head coach, there seems to be some breathing room with assistant coaching hires.
Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice are hitting the road! They will be in Grand Island on Monday, April 18th. The Platt Deutsche Ball Room is located at 1315 West Anna Street. We are told the drinks are cheap but stiff! Social hour starts at 6:00 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. It’s a free event, but there will be a goodwill collection for the Nebraska greats foundation. 2022 Episode 7: Sitting Down with Joe Moglia
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Joe Moglia has a lot of things to say about the NCAA, name, image, likeness, and the transfer portal. The Doc Talk Podcast is the perfect place for him to speak freely and unfiltered. The former Coastal Carolina Head Coach recently penned an article for Forbes where he discussed whether or not the NCAA should break up. You can read it by clicking HERE. This podcast goes from 0 to 100 in about 30 seconds and keeps the pedal to the metal for almost an hour and a half.
Moglia’s college football coaching career is unlike most everyone in the profession. Back in the 80s, he had a choice to make; move his family to Miami to be an assistant and possible Defensive Coordinator for the Hurricane. Or take a job with Merrill Lynch and start making money to support his family. At the time, assistants were barely making enough to put bread on the table, let alone a roof over your head.
Moglia made the right choice. After 17-years at Merrill Lynch, he became the CEO at TD Ameritrade. He would become Chairman in 2009 until Charles Schwab acquired the company in 2020. At close, the combined company was worth $100 BILLION with client assets of $7 TRILLION. When Joe arrived, these numbers were $700 million and $24 Billion.
Moglia never lost the itch to get back in the football game despite his magic with leading teams and companies in the financial markets. So in 2008 he took an internship, so to speak, with Bo Pelini and the University of Nebraska. That experience fueled his fire to become a college head coach.
In 2012, Joe became the Head Football Coach at Coastal Carolina, and in his first five seasons, his teams went to the National Playoffs all five years, and he was Conference Champion 4 times. His overall record was 56-22 for a .718 winning percentage. In his last 11 years of college coaching, he was a part of 8 championship teams. He has also received multiple Coach of the Year honors, including the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award. In addition, he was the recipient of the Vince Lombardi Award and was inducted into the Lombardi Hall of Fame. He was also selected to the Big South Conference All-Decade Team.
Moglia lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the weather is almost perfect! He is no longer on the Chanticleers sideline. He is Chairman of Fundamental Global Investors and Capital Wealth Advisors and Chair of Athletics, and Executive Advisor to the President at Coastal Carolina University.

2022 Episode 6: Throwing The Flag! Behind The Scenes with a Big 10 Official
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice try and avoid penalty flags in this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast.
Kyle DeBuse, who serves as a Big 10 Conference official, is in this studio. Kyle lives in Elkhorn and has been a college football official since 2011. Kyle was the Side Judge for the Big 10 Championship game and provided honest answers to making tough calls on the field. One thing that surprised both Dr. Rob and Travis is the amount of work that goes into being an official during the off-season and the season. If you don't think officials are held accountable for the calls they make, think again!
Also, on this podcast, we touch on the recently completed high school wrestling tournament, the personnel mess with the Husker women's basketball team, and recent 2023 verbal commit, offensive lineman Sam Sledge.

2022 Episode 5: Why Does Dr. Rob Hate Lil’ Red?
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
If you don’t follow Dr. Rob on Twitter, you should. He fires off a lot of one-liners daily and isn’t afraid to go against popular belief now and then. But, being a doctor, he usually backs up his 280 character wisdom with sound logic.
The mascots at the University of Nebraska are ordinary balloons that Dr. Rob throws darts at. He wants Herbie to have blond hair again, and he wants Lil’ Red just to pop and go away. On this edition of the Doc Talk podcast, Travis Justice gets into a deeper conversation with Dr. Rob about his dislike for the current state of the Husker mascots. Yes, they even discuss the most recent controversy of changing the Herbie logo from holding an okay sign up with his cartoon-drawn hands to him posing, saying Nebraska is #1! But it’s this last one that has portions of the fan base fired up! David Max, the publisher of Husker Max, stops by the podcast to talk about one of his latest business ventures, Fanalytix. For years David and his team have been providing fans with great content. However, what fans want has changed over the years, and Fanalytix is a game-changer for visual content. We live in a day and age of big data. If you drill deep enough into the numbers, you can find many pressing answers to why a team wins and why it loses. Fanalytix data is available for all Nebraska games, the Power Five teams, and the NFL. They say a picture says 1000 words. Well, a Fanalytix graphic shows you what four quarters of a game look like with the ability to dive in even deeper.
The Super Bowl is coming up on Sunday, and former Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor is the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Husker fans are showing their support for Taylor, who miraculously has made people look more fondly on the Bill Callahan era, even if it is for a week or two.

2022 Episode 4: Is It Time To Fire Fred?
Sunday Jan 30, 2022
Sunday Jan 30, 2022
I know people think this is a football podcast, and it is during the football season. But, during the off-season, we go in many different directions.
Nebraska basketball has been wrong all season. It's getting worse! The Huskers blew a lead at home late on Saturday and lost to Rutgers 63-61. At this recording, Nebraska is 6-15 overall and 0-10 in the Big 10.
During the football season, there was a lot of speculation about the job status of Scott Frost. Fred Hoiberg is sitting on a seat that is flaming hot. Fred has an 18-million dollar buyout of his contract Trev Alberts fires him. Can Nebraska afford to get rid of Hoiberg? The bigger question might be, can they afford not to get rid of him?
We don't ignore football in this episode. We talk a lot about name, image, and likeness and the almost weekly changes in this space. What will Nebraska do to keep pace with competitors like Ohio State? A major booster for the Buckeyes started a NIL charitable fund for athletes and hired former Buckeye quarterback Cardel Jones to run it, making him a de facto General Manager. It's the wild, wild west out there folks with no boundaries and a lot of money to be made.
What about the Big 10 Conference thinking about getting rid of divisions and eliminating one conference game? We dive into this topic; our opinion is that it's a good thing because of where college football is going. The league is thinking 5-10 years down the road and giving conference teams the best shot at making an expanded college football playoff.

2022 Episode 3: The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Transfering
Sunday Jan 23, 2022
Sunday Jan 23, 2022
Full disclosure. I type this intro to the Doc Talk Podcast after drinking a lot, and I mean a lot of beer from Bottle Rocket beer out of Seward, Nebraska. We drink two different kinds of Bottle Rocket during this podcast, the Golden Stout and the Juicy Burst. We were not paid to drink these beers; in fact, we paid for them. All we can say, worth every penny!
Our discussion tonight zeros in on the good, the bad, and the ugly of transferring at the college level and the high school ranks. Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice talk about the recent controversy in Nebraska Class A football with Greta being forced to vacate its state championship.
That discussion moved on to the college transfer portal and how Nebraska may, or rather should, benefit from the players it has acquired.
