2021 Episode 13: The Origin of the Pipeline
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Have you ever wondered where the term "Pipeline" was coined for the Nebraska offensive line? Dr. Rob Zatechka tells us the story of how it took over 3-years to convince the powers to be to go along with the idea. It's a great story that started with a question from Chad Carr from Ticket Express in this week's Ticket Talk segment brought to you by Ticket Express.
The Rimington Trophy presents this weekly podcast during the season. Nebraska is now 2-1 on the season after taking care of Buffalo on September 11. It's ironic that Dr. Rob tells the Pipeline story because a lot of the questions coming in from listeners are about the offensive line. Dr. Rob goes into great detail about the o-line, says one excuse he's not buying is being inexperienced and youth.
Also, Oklahoma is up next for Nebraska. The 50th Anniversary of the game of the century. What does the showdown with the Sooners mean to Dr. Rob? You might be surprised after listening.

2021 Episode 12: Fordham Is A False Positive
Sunday Sep 05, 2021
Sunday Sep 05, 2021
It's easy to look at the Husker's 52-7 win over Fordham and think that all is right in the world. However, looking at the data, the numbers would indicate the ship is on the right track.
633 yards of total offense
34 first downs
12-19 on 3rd down conversions
4-4 on 4th down conversions
Three interceptions
But on this week's Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, former Husker All-American Dr. Rob Zatechka gives his official diagnosis. In his expert opinion, the win over the Rams was a false positive. Although Dr. Rob doesn't want you to be disheartened by what he thinks, he's all in favor of more testing. He believes the game against Buffalo on Saturday will give a better indication if Nebraska is improving. Even more so in the game in two weeks again, Oklahoma.
How did Dr. Rob come to his conclusion? First, he dove deep into the numbers and found some disturbing trends that might be overlooked. Also, he doesn't consider Fordham an elite FCS team, and the fact that it took until the 3rd quarter to put the Rams away for good raised some concerns.
Dr. Rob and Travis Justice know this should be a time to celebrate, but what is wrong with proceeding with caution? After all, Illinois, the team Nebraska lost to a week ago, got beat at home by Texas-San Antonio yesterday! A team from Conference USA! I think it's safe to say the Illini's win over Nebraska was a false positive.

2021 Episode 11: Nothing Has Changed
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
Illinois 30 Nebraska 22.
By now, you know the final score. So the reaction to losing the first game of Scott Frost's fourth season at Nebraska is not met with that much surprise or shock. But, sadly, as Coach Frost said himself after the game, it's the same movie.
On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss what went wrong vs. the Illini. Yes, it's the same old mental mistakes—turnovers, penalties, special teams mess-ups that doomed the Huskers. But Dr. Rob gives a deeper diagnosis that has more to do with coaching and the team's ability to make adjustments.
Will this coaching staff learn? What's next for a team that, on paper, has two should be cream puffs coming up on the schedule that could lead to a false sense of security.

2021 Episode 10: A lot Has Happened Since The Last Time We Talked!
Sunday Aug 22, 2021
Sunday Aug 22, 2021
You might be asking yourself, it's been a busy news week for Nebraska football; where in the hell has Dr. Rob Zatechka been?
It's a good question, and here is an explanation. First of all Travis Justice, (the other dude on this podcast and the one who has the fancy studio gear to record) had to drive a car to New Orleans to give to his sophomore in college. Then, as soon as Travis got back from the Cresent City, Rob did the same thing for his daughter in Tallahassee, Florida.
Knowing they couldn't wait any longer, you will find this discussion to be a little different from previous recordings. Dr. Rob is in on the road and on the phone. They try and cover all thig big things that have happened over the last two weeks like:
The NCAA Investigation
Is someone trying to sabotage Scott Frost
The season opener vs. Illinois
Bo Pelini podcast appearance
I can confidently say Dr. Rob is wearing his seatbelt and using a hands-free device while doing this recording.

2021 Episode 9: The"V" Word!
Sunday Aug 08, 2021
Sunday Aug 08, 2021
We've been told a thousand times, never talk about religion and politics on the podcast. We've done it a couple of times, and despite making some people mad, everything turned out okay.
In this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice talk about the "V" word. Get your mind of the gutter, not that "V" word. We are talking about vaccinations. Depending on how you feel, this might be the same as talking about religion and politics.
Why talk about this now? Well, COVID cases are increasing not just in Nebraska but all over the country. Husker Head Coach Scott Frost has said he's not yet comfortable with the team's vaccination rate. The Delta variant of the virus seems to be affecting young adults and children more than the older population. A high percentage of people being hospitalized and dying are unvaccinated.
Since Dr. Rob is a doctor, he's more than qualified to give his opinion on the matter. He's just lucky enough to do a podcast where he can talk about both of his passions, medicine and football! Seriously though, are games at risk? Is the 100% capacity limits at risk?
Let's say they do postpone or cancel games or even reduce the crowd size. What happens to your ticket? Chad Carr from Ticket Express is on the show with Ticket Talk and clearly explains this companies policy.
We can only have these deep conversations while drinking beer! So Rob's wife Jennifer stopped at McCue's Nebraska Taproom in Kearney and picked up a crowler from Highway 14 Brewing Company in Albion.
Less than four weeks until the season kicks off. Do you have the right gear? Husker Hounds has three locations in Omaha, and you can buy online by clicking here! Husker Hounds has the biggest and best selection of anything you want Big Red!

2021 Episode 8: This Isn't Over. What's Coming Next?
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
Five weeks! The countdown is on to the start of the college football season. Nebraska had its annual fan day, and practice has started. In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka says we can talk until we are red in the face about what "could" be this season for the Huskers. Still, the reality is nobody has a clue until that first game.
What continues to dominate the discussion of college football is conference realignment. Dr. Rob and Travis Justice pick up the conversation right where they left last week. As predicted, a lot has changed since our drunk-filled recording. Texas and Oklahoma accepted the invitation to join the SEC. The move is sure to set off a reaction of even more schools posturing for the massive amounts of money that are sure to be generated.
You may have noticed Nebraska and the Big 10, for the matter, have been pretty quiet when it comes to realignment. However, one thing is clear, if the Big 10 is going to keep pace with the SEC, it will have to add more schools. Will they come from the PAC-12, leftovers from the Big-12, or somewhere else?
To get us primed for our conversation today, we are drinking "Serendipity" from New Glarus Brewing. A sour ale brewed with cherries, apples, and cranberries. We are always looking for great beers to drink and breweries to promote. If you have suggestions both locally and nationally, send them to us, doctalksports@gmail.com.
Nebraska Center, Cam Jurgens is on the recently released Rimington Award watch list. It's given annually to the best Center in college football. Jurgens is one of six Big 10 Conference Centers on the list. This year, the Trophy committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow down its list to the top 40 centers.
The biggest ticket and most in-demand at Memorial Stadium this year is NOT for a football game. Garth Brooks is coming to Lincoln. The show was sold out in a matter of minutes. Chad Carr from Ticket Express stops by the show. You'll hear Chad all season long on this podcast with his weekly "Ticket Talk" segments.
Make sure to get your game-day gear at Husker Hounds! There are three locations in Omaha are, and you can also buy online. Nobody has a bigger or better Big Red selection than Husker Hounds.

2021 Episode 7: What We Know Today Will Be Different Tomorrow
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
The SEC, Texas, and Oklahoma threw the college football world into a tizzy this past week. First, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Big 12 Conference rivals would leave the Big 12 for the SEC. If this move does take place, it will have a ripple effect throughout college sports and conferences.
If you are worried, you should be! Here's one thing we know, what we know today most likely will be completely different tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and so on.
Who's controlling all this chaos? It's not a who; it's the almighty dollar.
Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice get really drunk and talk conference realignment in this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast and talk about this real life game of survivor.
